Stephanie Gerding is an independent library consultant, author, and trainer with over fifteen years of professional experience working with non-profit, government, and library organizations. She provides guidance to libraries and nonprofits by sharing best practices, strategies, and methodologies that can be adapted to each unique community’s needs, specifically in the areas of grants, technology, and advocacy.
She is an expert trainer, presenting learning opportunities around the country and online (see current and past topics). Stephanie works part-time as an Outreach and Training Consultant for Techsoup for Libraries. She is a facilitator/online trainer for the Public Library Association's national advocacy project, Turning the Page 2.0, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She also leads a month long train-the-trainer course through PLA, to be offered again in fall 2012, The Accidental Public Library Technology Trainer. Stephanie lives in Seattle, WA with her husband and four-year-old daughter.
Having done a variety of training during her library career for all types of libraries and nonprofits, Stephanie has presented at national conferences and conducted training across the United States. She has been involved in technology training throughout her library career and has trained librarians, systems administrators, homeless children, university students and faculty, teachers in rural South Africa, and senior citizens. Her online training reaches international audiences, including Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, and Australia.
Formerly a trainer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s U.S. Library Program, Stephanie worked with many public libraries, either traveling to their site or conducting week-long train-the-trainer programs. She has also managed statewide library training programs at New Mexico and Arizona State Libraries, including administration of numerous Technology Institutes, Library Institutes, and customized on-site training programs for public libraries. She managed a corporate library as a systems
administrator; worked for SIRSI as a traveling trainer; performed as a
library cataloger; and taught web-based distance education technology
courses on information literacy and online learning for advanced degree
university students.
She has success in all areas of grant work as a reviewer, writer, trainer, project manager, and consultant. She has presented grant training sessions and workshops at national library conferences (including ALA, PLA, Internet Librarian, and others), and has conducted over 30 grant trainings for libraries and nonprofits, and has over twenty grant publications.
Stephanie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a concentration in technical writing, and a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Corporate Information from the University of Tennessee.
